We finally made it to the end of the school year! This year, as with any year, there were great times and then there were days that made me question my chosen profession. It is important to remember those days that went well, students were engaged and learning, and most importantly, no one got hurt.
Here are a few fun memories:
A fresh new start in a new classroom, in a brand new school, with a great administration
Playing on the hard court (student favorite!)
The gingerbread man and his crazy antics
Field trip opportunities-Pumpkin Farm, Nutcracker Ballet, Butterfly to Caterpillar Play
The evolution of our daily morning meetings
A visit from our local fire department (The students could name and identify features of the trucks too!)
Apple taste testing (pie won!)
"Disguising a Turkey" family activity in the classroom
Measuring each other-even the teacher!
The 100th Day of School
The inflatable planetarium, "Star Lab"
Exciting spring science experiences including hatching butterflies, making a model of an insect and planting
Water color and play-dough creations during inside recess days
Recreating parts of stories with materials at center time
Students sounding out their words independently and writing the words
Students using actual playing cards to learn math (“Double Compare”)
Students figuring out simple addition and subtraction and feeling so proud of themselves
Celebrating summer birthdays
End of the year picnic celebration
Watching students enjoy checking out books from our school library based on favorites from our classroom
Favorite stories: Enemy Pie, A Bad Case of Stripes, Stephanie’s Ponytail, anything Eric Carle, Pete the Cat, Frank was a Monster that Wanted to Dance, and Dr. Seuss
What are your favorite memories from the past school year? I would love to hear about them!
