Online Professional Portfolio
This weekend I decided that I would embark on creating my online professional portfolio. Gone are the days of the 4 inch binder with a ton of stuff no one looks at. This monumental task is like eating an elephant-one bite at a time. I think I have literally spent 14 or 15 hours this weekend on this. Once I started, I just kept going. The perfectionist in me couldn’t stop.

I started by looking up what others have done. Then, knowing that my school system uses the Charlotte Danielson system for teacher evaluations, I had a more specific search. I also had to decide which online website or program I would use to create my portfolio. I looked at about a half a dozen and then wondered why I was even looking. I really like Wix Site, having used it for my blog. It is very easy to understand, they have great video tutorials, and templates. When creating the portfolio, I decided that in addition to having the domains in my portfolio, I would put a small bio, teaching philosophy, resume, class pictures, and links to this website as well as Twitter.
Having taught for 15 years, there is a massive amount of things I could include. I wanted to not make myself too crazy so I decided to not go beyond the past 5 years. I think I have looked through a third of all of the stuff I could put in. I figure quality over quantity. I think the things I want to focus on now are some of the pictures I have. I feel like they give a better sense of my teaching.
For those of you that are thinking about starting, just jump in. Set a small goal. For instance, focus on one domain first or your resume. I couldn’t believe how long it had been since I had even looked at my resume. I started with going through one folder of my many educational folders and then moving on to another.
If you have any questions, let me know! I might be of some assistance if you are feeling overwhelmed by this task. Happy creating! (and organizing, searching, copying, pasting, designing, etc…..)
