You may have figured out from the pictures that I live in Maryland in the USA. I have an eight year old daughter that has taught me to slow down and wonder. Seeing things through her eyes has been an awakening as well as pretty funny at times. When she first started to read road signs, things got fun. I will never forget her saying, "Mom, why does that say the HELL station?" Guess the S fell off! (I thought that was better than what I wanted to say.)Thanks to her Kindergarten teacher for her reading skills!
Last summer we were driving in Pennsylvania and she was noting the amount of the same sporting goods stores in the area. She asks, "Mom, why are there so many Dick's?" I had to think before I lost it. I think I said something like, "Well, there are a lot of Best Buys too."
Summer is for relaxation, reflection, spending time with my family, and thinking about what I would like to see happen in my classroom this fall. I would like to ask other educators to join in this blog so that we can help each other answer questions, get ideas, share funny teaching moments, post links to things that are useful to us as teachers, and create a network of support for one another.
Motivation is very important to everyone in their daily lives and I am hoping we can motivate, learn, and laugh with each other. This is one of my favorite motivational talks I have seen lately, so I thought I would share:
Ted Talks YouTube clip titled: "Every kid needs a champion" by Rita Pierson.
